How to identify the authentic Khokhloma

Since Khokhloma (hoh-lo-ma) is an original national craft, a plenty of items is made in handicraft way. In this case the observance of technological process, used paints and lacquers and quality assurance are out of the question.

Most of sellers try to give out these fakes for the authentic products of enterprise "Khokhloma Painting”. Only "Khokhloma Painting” is authorized to create the products called Khokhloma, sign and label them. Be careful. The fake khokhloma items can be dangerous for your health. After inspection of some counterfeit items a huge quantity of formaldehyde (poison for human) was detected in paints and lacquer. The exceeding was more that 20 times.

Main distinctions:

1. "Khokhloma Painting” is marked with a special self-glued oval label with the Quality Department stamp (dark blue color) as shown below.

The hand writing of the product name is not allowed as well as absence of label and black and white copied. Unique products be marked by a holographic label "Association of National art crafts of Russia" additionally and accompanied with a passport of a product.

2. An each authentic product has a smooth and equal surface without sand and dust contaminations.

3. The item should be warm in touch.

4. The bottom of the product must be smoothly painted by equal layer and lacquered. Any unpainted surfaces (including bottom) are not allowed.
